What a year so far!
We have around 30 members aged between 10-28 meeting on Wednesdays at different locations each week.
We sprung into action recently, with lots of hands-on meets like creating compost and “Bio-beds” for the Garlic farm as well as litter picking the beach for Earth Day! We have also attended CPR training at the IOW NHS Trust, a skin cancer talk and SSE electricity session, keeping our members informed about what to do in an emergency to keep farmers safe in the countryside. Some of our social meets included: Laser tag, pub quiz, movie night and the driving range. As well as many more informative meets, Sandown airport, Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust talk on grey partridge conservation. Some seasonal meets were pumpkin carving, bonfire night, wreath making, carol singing, our Christmas party, Brighstone Christmas tree festival, Newport carnival and pancake making!

A Royal Visit:
Thanks to the “Can you hear us project?” our chairwomen, Georgie Lorenzen and Young Leader, Harry Taylor, had the amazing opportunity to meet HRH Prince Edward at Quay Arts on 16 April 2026 to discuss our upcoming project that has been awarded some funding from Creative Island as well as the Isle of Wight Council and the Arts Council England as well as “everyday creativity.” Harry, Georgie and Prince Edward discussed the work of our Young Farmers club and our aspirations for the project alongside other groups including the IOW Indonesian Community and HMP Isle of Wight! For our project, the club has chosen to create a mural showing the Isle of Wight’s agriculture, environment and landmarks throughout the seasons. This will be a great project for our members to get involved with and have something to display at all the agricultural events the Island has to offer!

Why join YFC?
Being a member of Young Farmers gives members a chance to meet other like-minded people, whilst spending time outside in the rural community learning new skills, fundraising, taking part in events and having a positive impact in the local community. And you really don’t have to be a farmer! The club provides a friendly environment for anyone interested in the countryside and rural life. As a member you also benefit from being part of a larger community, through the Hampshire and National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs, providing opportunities to learn, travel and feel part of a vital network across the country, which connects young people in all aspects of rural life!
We are so fortunate to have great support from the farming community, here are just a few of our upcoming meetings and events planned for this summer…
- vineyard tour,
- flower farm tour,
- beekeeping,
- pig stock judging,
- lambing evening
- Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society County Show,
- Chillerton and Gatcombe scarecrow festival,
- sheepdog trials,
- as well as fund raising events such as car parking at the Chale Action challenge.
