Celebrating Rural Heritage at the Isle of Wight Ploughing Match
September 26, 2025

Wight Rural Hub was proud to attend this year’s Isle of Wight Ploughing Match, sharing a stand with Catchment Sensitive Farming IW and welcoming Gary Clarke from Southern Water. Nestled between the NFU Mutual and Roach Pittis marquees, our pitch was perfectly placed to engage with the farming community and celebrate the Island’s rich agricultural traditions.

We made the most of the day by connecting with farmers, producers and rural stakeholders, while also indulging in some of the Island’s finest local produce. The Leverets delicious offerings were a highlight and in the IW Grain tent, we sampled cinnamon buns from The Lost Bakery made with Isle of Wight Grain flour. We also tasted Wight Whisky, crafted using barley grown right here on the Island—an inspiring showcase of our local circular economy in action.

Throughout the day, we witnessed traditional country skills, admired both vintage and modern farming machinery and celebrated the Island’s rural heritage. The event also supported a vital cause: Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Special congratulations go to:

  • Reserve Champion Ploughman – George Richards
  • Overall Champion Ploughman – Ricky Attrill
… and to all the skilled ploughmen who took part!

Other highlights included Catchment Sensitive Farming IW’s Jack winning a bag of John Knox potatoes in the raffle and Wight Rural Hub walking away with a bottle of wine and an umbrella from BCM Wilson Hill. All in all, it was a fantastic day and we were proud to support this important event through our pitch fee, programme listing and presence.

A huge thank you to all the producers who contributed – your support helps us tell the story of farming on the Isle of Wight in a truly authentic way.
